While watching the news this morning the similarity between our modern news and the shell game struck me. Most of the news reporting is biased one way or the other and that is how we typically end up with a favorite anchorman. For example, you know what you are going to hear when you tune in Keith Olbermann or Bill O'Reilly. The same news story reported with two different slants to it.
Unfortunately, this scramble for ratings and opinionated reporting keeps the general public concentrating on the reporting rather than the news.
Set aside the fact that one could quarrel that Paris Hilton and OJ Simpson are not news; the media force feeds us the stories that will get them ratings. They play into the hands of the political parties, stirring the pot so we never get to the the hard questions that have to be answered. We'll concentrate on the General Patreus fiasco until the media moves on, instead of concentrating on the story and it's resolution. We need more straight forward reporting and less preening for the cameras!
