Schip, Mars Exploration Or Exoskeltons- Not All Three| Posted Saturday, December 01, 2007 at 12:18:11 PM | For those who might believe that Christmas is only 1 day out of 365, I suggest that everyday is Christmas to our Congress. Just look at the following programs either under consideration or already in place.
SCHIP- State Childrens Health Insurance Program. Although vetoed once this program will come up again. It attempts to increase the income level of individual families eligible for health care under this program. While the concept has merit, the cost of $35 Billion dollars is staggering. This program is being promoted by the Democrats and one has to believe that we will see some version of this program in the future.
There is an ad on TV promoting Mars exploration and one individual that appears on the ad says that this is a program we desperately need. The ad goes on to say that scientists across the world are designing and developing the rockets, suits and land roving vehicles necessary for such a project. No cost is given, I'm sure that the total cost of such a project hasn't even been calculated. But, I do believe that it's easy to say such a program is desperately needed if someone else is paying for it.
The Iraq war is costing us an estimated $270 million dollars a day and the total cost of the war is projected to be between 1-2 trillion dollars. These figures are incomprehensible to me and I know that I'm not alone. While the financial cost of the war is not the most important factor, it certainly has to be taken into consideration.
Our elected officials are so divorced from reality that they know longer see these figures as the general population see them. We can't do everything and yet we seem to be determined to do just that. If you have a dream, just sell it to your representative and it can become reality.
It's high time that our Congress and administration get their own dose of reality. Hopefully election day will provide just that, if we can afford to wait that long. | |
