Ideal Candidates| Posted Tuesday, November 27, 2007 at 9:57:53 PM | It would appear that all of the current presidential candidates are prepared to tell their audience exactly what they would like to hear. It also appears that there is no great concern that any statement might be directly opposed to a previous statement.
I'm of the mindset that there is no ideal candidate.
I guess if you are a traditional party loyalist prepared to follow your party in it's downward spiral, then you may already have your candidate picked. I have never understood the fanatical claim of allegiance to a party and therefore will exclude those individuals from these comments.
I believe that there are too many major issues to expect a particular candidate to agree completely with you on all. Global warming, stem cell research, abortion, Iraq war, immigration; the list goes on. Unless you have been cloned into a political candidate, it is difficult to believe that there is a candidate that shares all your particular sentiments.
I believe that we each have to choose one or two issues that are non-negotiable to us and find the candidate that best shares our views on those issues. Since we've already determined that other issues are of secondary importance, there should be room for compromise on those issues. With compromise should come acceptance and satisfaction in the election of a particular candidate.
The major parties have fragmented our population and have us at each others throats. Amongst friends, I have heard the term Democrat or Republican used contemptuously.
It's high time that we remember that first and foremost we are all Americans! | |
