I listened to President Bush's news conference this morning and came away with the following impression.
There is no doubt that Congress to this point in time has had little result.
There is no doubt that part of Congress's responsibility is to be a watchdog and offer due oversight of the administration's actions.
Congress's refusal to offer carte blanche acceptance of the administration's request is understandable.
I can say this as someone who voted for President Bush twice and yet now see the err of my actions.
Someone within this administration is guilty of deceit which led to the Iraq war. It may be Cheney, Rumsfeld or some other advisor. I hate to envision that the President himself lied and prefer to think he was misinformed, in the absence of satisfactory evidence.
Someone within this administration is quilty of incompetence and on this matter I have to believe that the buck stops at the desk of the President.
This administration's track record on transparency and getting the facts right is intolerable. While a portion of Congress's inaction can be blamed on politics, this administration's previous actions necessitate magnifying glass scrutiny of all their actions.
