I got to work late this morning after waiting impatiently to ask a question on C-Span. I never got a chance to ask my question due to the call volume. The guest was Peter Wehner, a former presidential advisor from 2002-2007. He left the administration and now works for a think tank. His discussion basically revolved around Iraq and the administrations policy towards the middle east. So I'll ask my questions and make a statement here.
Wehner stated the the President had paid the price for his unpopular decision. A caller from upstate NY called him on that point and I was going to follow up on that. Whatever price the President has paid politically for the war pales in comparison to the cost to our fighting men and women and the financial cost to our nation. An ill-conceived, poorly planned war of choice that now has us in a quagmire and this intellectual wants us to have sympathy for the President!
Question: We have spent trillions of dollars in the past 50 years on foreign policy and I would ask what our last successful policy decision would be. We have countless intellectuals (?) employed in foreign affairs and think tanks and they never seem to get it right. Justify the expense of our foreign policy. The last success of any measure that I'm familiar with was the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Final question: Are the major parties familiar with the enthusiasm for the independent party and why do the major parties think that is happening? Doesn't that mean the public has had enough of the status quo?
