Well the bridge rating is down to a 2 out of a possible 100 per a current engineers report. But state officials say that rating is due to the bridge's age and not an indication of safety. Of course, they don't have to drive over the bridge and these guys probably went to the same engineering school as the ones in the Minneapolis bridge collapse.
Critics of the short bridge, Audubon North Carolina and Southern Environmental Law Ctr. continue to push their objections with the federal Council on Environmental Quality. Dare County is exploring options of pursuing legal actions against these two opposing organizations. In the meantime, we who live and work on the island are simply pawns to be toyed with. Someone ought to wake these clowns up before we have a disaster on the Outer Banks.
