It's been a couple of years since we had a sizable run or blitz of bluefish. Last year we had a couple of little runs but nothing like the old days.
A friend of mine was driving on the beach several days ago and had his rod with him. By sheer luck he stumbled across birds feeding close to shore so decided to toss a line in the water. He told me that within 30 minutes he had pulled in 7 blues out of which he kept two 18-20 pounders. Hopefully this tells us that we'll have a good year for blues. Although we haven't had a cold snap that typically starts the fish south if we've got this size school on our shores already, perhaps better days are coming. Fish tales or truth, only time will tell.
