I had this conversation with a first time visitor as they were checking out at the end of their vacation.
A woman visiting from Ohio was bemoaning her situation as vacation ended and they faced their long trip home.
She told me that I didn't know how lucky I was to live here. To have the Atlantic Ocean on one side of our island and the Pacific on the other side was overwhelming to her. I didn't bother to explain that the body of water to our west was a sound and not really the Pacific Ocean. I felt it would be embarassing to have her ignorance pointed out to her.
Of course, on the surface her remark was understandable as the sound is approximately 30 miles wide in spots, but it still isn't an ocean.
