America's Demise| Posted Friday, November 02, 2007 at 11:14:16 AM | I have been discussing the North American Union with a number of people and have had two different typical responses. One is that my understanding of the NAU is " A remarkable perception of the obvious." The other opinion is more in line with mine, that being "What in the hell is going on?" This policy is being advanced by the powers that be, behind closed doors. I am attempting to bring these treasonous acts to the public's attention. If indeed these proponents of such action are successful, I hope that it takes place after my lifetime.
North American Union (NAU) As the U.S., Mexico, Canada and Central America governments explore the implementation of a continental union strategy (NAU); they do so without the input or expressed opinions of their citizens, nor their elected representatives. This proposal, in combination with other recent acts, seeks to increase trade, provide greater security and control immigration in the Americas. This proposal has its opponents and proponents, as do most bills. Those in favor of such legislation point to the European Union (EU) and suggest that this act will enhance our position in world trade. They suggest that any path other than entering into such a union would appear as isolationist or protectionist. They argue that this is a world economy and we must adapt to the changes in today's world market place. Indeed, current administration personnel state that trade agreements must be a win/win situation for all trading partners.
All of this is a substantive argument and on face value might have some practicality. But, I would hasten to add, that the American dream was not born of practicality. Our founding fathers voluntarily gave up their comfortable lifestyles, and sometimes life itself, for the concept of American freedom. Their dream, an American Republic, was fostered on emotion, not practicality. I would make the following argument against this rationale: The current administrations record of accomplishment on trade policy leaves a great deal to be desired. The current administration should learn China's definition of a win/win situation. In trade policies between socialist and democratic countries, socialist countries have the upper hand. We have yet to produce a winning trade policy for America as our trade deficit shows. It is not up to us to ensure a win/win trade policy. We should ensure that foreign trade policy has America's best interest in mind. Success is the American dream, but we must be very familiar with the cost of success. Every man must sometimes fight against his drive to become the latest version of a Michael Milken. The definition of success is also a relative term. Our founding fathers, deemed financial success unimportant without individual freedoms. Their definition of success was the birth of America. America should not be for sale to the highest bidder! Our infrastructures, our national wealth, our heritage are items given to us in trust for future generations of Americans. "Each man must for himself alone decide what is right and what is wrong, which course is patriotic and which isn't. You cannot shirk this and be a man. To decide against your conviction is to be an unqualified and excusable traitor, both to yourself and to your country, let men label you as they may." ~ Mark Twain To those, driven by economic gains, I would caution that America's national assets are not theirs by acquisition. I would suggest that one might look at the sale of the American Redwood forests as a prime example of such unscrupulous, unpatriotic behavior on the part of Pacific Lumber Co. and MAXXAM Inc. We must protect our American heritage or face losing it for future generations of Americans. "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country." ~ JFK As a staunch opponent of this and similar acts, I offer this argument. America was founded on a dream, ridiculous to some, worth dying for to others. While financial success certainly played a part in the concept, our founding fathers were prepared to sacrifice their lives and fortunes for personal liberties. "When an American says that he loves his country, he means not only that he loves the New England hills, the prairies glistening in the sun, the wide and rising plains, the great mountains, and the sea. He means that he loves an inner air, an inner light in which freedom lives and in which a man can draw the breath of self-respect."~ Adlai Stevenson I suggest that any attack on our sovereignty should be considered as an attack on our nation. Whether such attacks come from ill-advised domestic and foreign policies or poorly guised hostile take-over of American infrastructure, such assault on our national sovereignty must be seen for what it is. October 2007 - Citic, a state-run Chinese bank, attempts to acquire a 20% share of Bear Stearns. February 2006 - DP World, a Dubai based ports company owned by the United Arab Emirates sought to acquire rights to operate in 6 major ports located on the East Coast and Gulf Coast of the continental US. September 2007 - US treasury Secretary urged to scrutinize the proposed purchase by Borse Dubai of 20% of NASDAQ Stock Exchange. Borse Dubai was created in August 2007 as a holding company for the Dubai government. All of these attempts offer personal gain for the individual while diminishing our control of our own sovereignty and indeed the fate of our country. STRIVE ACT - Security through Regularized Immigration and a Vibrant Economy - requires the US government to work with Canada, Mexico and Central American governments on issues related to: Violent criminal aliens Gang activities Law enforcement assistance Drug trafficking This act would also provide a path for earned citizenship. DREAM ACT - Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors - provides a path to citizenship for immigrant students. SPP - Security & Prosperity Partnership - The SPP is a White House-led initiative among the United States and the two nations it borders - Canada and Mexico - to increase security and to enhance prosperity among the three countries through greater cooperation. The SPP is based on the principle that our prosperity is dependent on our security and recognizes that our three great nations share a belief in freedom, economic opportunity, and strong democratic institutions. The SPP outlines a comprehensive agenda for cooperation among our three countries while respecting the sovereignty and unique cultural heritage of each nation. The SPP provides a vehicle by which the United States, Canada, and Mexico can identify and resolve unnecessary obstacles to trade and it provides a means to improve our response to emergencies and increase security, thus benefiting and protecting Americans. "A man's country is not a certain area of land, of mountains, rivers, and woods, but it is a principle; and patriotism is loyalty to that principle." ~George William Curtis Our republic offers a system of checks and balances that must be enforced to ensure that a person, or persons, whimsical fancies are transparent to all. "Of all the supervised conditions for life offered man, those under USA's constitution have proved the best. Wherefore, be sure when you start modifying, corrupting or abrogating it." ~ Martin H. Fischer The argument might be made that we have a Free Enterprise System (Capitalism) and therefore goods or property can be and should be sold for their highest and best use. I could likewise make the argument that we no longer have a true Free Market System. Artificial manipulations of interest rates, hedge funds, irrational profit taking and criminal corporate and personal actions have all superseded the true laws of supply and demand. I do recognize the difference between individual actions and corporate greed. If you wish to sell your home on the California Gold Coast to Eskimos, European aristocrats or the Russian Czar, you should be free to do so. If you are an American company, a national interest, a national heritage or a security risk, in some fashion, then I believe the nation's interests override your personal interests. Behind the scene corporate power has too many elected officials in their pockets protecting their selfish interests over the interests of the American public. "We have enjoyed so much freedom for so long that we are perhaps in danger of forgetting how much blood it cost to establish the Bill of Rights."~ Felix Frankfurter In closing: Several years ago, Home Depot announced that they were moving their company headquarters offshore to better compete with international competition. The tax advantages would prove to be a sizable corporate savings. I cut my Home Depot credit card in half and mailed it to them stating that I would never shop at a Home Depot again. I am sure that my credit card made no difference. I am equally sure that 10,000 customers of the same mind would make a difference. Home Depot's corporate headquarters remain in Atlanta, GA. In 2007, Microsoft announced they were moving their headquarters to Canada. Although taxes were part of the entire package, unrestricted immigration was the rationale promoting the move. Microsoft wanted the opportunity to have unrestricted access to foreign corporate workers at a tremendous salary savings. These and other companies that have used American tax breaks and the American public to grow, now find greener pastures in other countries. They should be treated as foreign companies subject to quotas, tariffs and import regulation and restrictions. The oil companies blithely quoting their quarterly corporate earnings know that they are undermining the American economy. Sheer greed propels these corporate giants without a conscience. They have so many politicians in their pockets that they are immune to criticism. Someone ought to pull them aside and whisper the word Nationalize to these modern day robber barons. If they are unable to control their selfish appetites than perhaps the government has to step in. The question is asked: Is America as strong as it once was? War, our propensity for charity, unfettered foreign aid and national waste has all taken their toll. While I do not see the fall of our nation by military action, I do see the unrecognized insidious actions of foreign powers, corporate entities and governmental inroads against our individual freedoms as threats. While each inroad seems miniscule in itself, the cumulative effect threatens our American freedoms and national sovereignty.
Am I being an alarmist? I think not. Consider the following facts.
Recent acts by the current administration and congress prove undeniably that our elected representatives do not act in America's best interest. Donald Rumsfeld, Richard Cheney, Scooter Libby, Larry Craig, the list goes on! Transparency in government is no longer accepted practice, merely a token phrase.
The first word in the SPP is security. It is not far fetched to presume that the NAU will have negotiated security alliances built into it. Why the United States would offer to place the Americas under its security umbrella escapes me. Obviously, we have the most military might in the western hemisphere. We will have a bona fide interest in protecting countries within this union who share a common currency. Such a union places us in a position where we may have conflicts with other existing alliances: NATO, for example. I fought under and for the American flag as have many millions of other service men and women. I have no allegiance to the NAU, but the time could very possibly come when American fighting men and women are placed in a position of supporting NAU policies. Since we will have negotiated union policies, NAU policies and America's best interests are guaranteed not to be the same thing.
Finally, on an economic level, who can make an argument that such a union is in America's best national interest. Certainly, Mexico can state unequivocally that they stand to gain significantly from such a union. Peru and Ecuador likewise have nothing to lose and everything to gain from such a step. Alan Greenspan, renown for his economic policies, recently admitted that even he makes mistakes. Regarding the current crisis in housing and lending policies: Asked why he didn't speak out, if he knew these practices were going on or even suspected that there was something illegal or shady, Greenspan admits, "While I was aware a lot of these practices were going on, I had no notion of how significant they had become until very late. I didn't really get it until very late in 2005 and 2006." If the architect of our national economic policies for the past two decades isn't infallible, what makes our administration and congress believe they have all the answers? Certainly, their record for the past 20 years would give one a sense of apprehension. Yet, they are fully prepared to give away American sovereignty on their fanciful dream of a new world order. We need to get our own house in order before we look to see what the future holds!
Look up the term: amero, on the web. This vision for a North American Union type currency is already well on it's way to being the Americas version of the euro. Did anyone ask you for your opinion before this decision was made? "Intellectually I know that America is no better than any other country; emotionally I know she is better than every other country." ~ Sinclair Lewis
